Dry skin care involves thorough care, watching your habits, keeping to a specific washing and moisturising regimen, and inspecting labels of products to stay free of possible irritants and to get more moisture for your skin. Skin care for dry skin, remember, need more moisturising compared to other skin types. Try the following dry skincare tips.

1. Choose products that offer more moisturising treatment for your skin. Using petroleum-based products may have adverse effects on your skin, as these do not moisturise as well as others. Dry skin care products with natural hypoallergenic ingredients are better. To keep moisture in, after you shower, use organic skin care products. These contain vitamins (A, C, D, and E) and protein that nourish your skin.

2. Using tap water is not advised, as it contains chemicals like chlorine. Use mineral water instead. When using solutions for your skin, avoid those with alcohol in them. These are natural dry skin care products that don’t cause irritation and maintain or keep in one’s body moisture. They work in that they leave your skin with a clean feel after the clean out the pores.

3. Cut down on your shower time. That’s because the water in the shower is just more tap water. Healthy skin care involves avoiding irritants, so just three minutes in the shower is fine. If you use a dry skin product in the shower, like soap, choose a mild one. Scrubbing too hard isn’t good. Try a mild oatmeal soap as it can exfoliate without causing allergic reactions. Right after you shower, pat dry.

4. Addressing the itchy areas. Sometimes you notice itchy spots on your skin and scalp. Don’t scratch them. For dry skin treatment, apply some shea butter twice a day on those areas, and don’t let water splash on those affected parts. Dry skin, take note, is vulnerable to the elements in the product ingredients and the environment. So just to be safe, add in your meals some organic butter, coconut oil, and fresh water fish.

5. A humidifier is a good investment. It would be convenient for you to have extra moisture in the air, at home, where you might stay long periods. This is because any prolonged stay in an area where there’s little moisture can be bad for your dry skin.

Using natural products is also good for dry skin care. Try some plain vitamin E oil, available at most pharmacies and retail stores. This oil is usually very thick and so the skin can absorb it over time and it works very well under makeup. Using natural products also means less irritation to your face which is very important for dry skin care. When the face is irritated it uses up what natural oils it may have resulting in even worse dry skin.
