The top priority for an acne sufferer is quickly finding a solution. With there being no shortage of acne remedies available, how do you choose the best one for you?

So many remedies, so many results

Regrettable but true, no single acne remedy will produce a perfect result for every single person.Different people’s acne will respond differently to the same remedy. Hence the reason for so many acne remedies.  For individual people, then, finding one that works well is often a process of trial and error.

If you are looking for a remedy to treat your acne, here are some suggestions for how to work through the process:

1.You should start with clean skin. With bacteria being an important factor in an outbreak of acne, it makes sense to concentrate on keeping your skin clean.  Establish a routine of washing your face gently each morning and each evening, using a mild face wash formulated for acne-prone skin.

2.  Add in an anti-acne formula. If you are fortunate, regularly washing your face may be enough to keep your acne at bay. If not, try a cleanser that contains a stronger anti-acne formula.Recommended choices are formulas containing either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. The best approach is to start using the milder formulations and if required move on to some stronger formulations.

3.  Try a different anti-acne formula. There is no guarantee your skin will respond favourably to a particular acne remedy, or that your existing remedy will continue to work well.  If this happens then try switching to a different anti-acne formula; for instance, if you have been using salicylic acid try benzoyl peroxide instead, and if you have been using benzoyl peroxide try salicylic acid instead.

4.  See your doctor for other options.Your doctor or dermatologist can offer specialist help and advice if your, over the counter acne remedy, hasn’t provided the results you wanted. An ever expanding range of mild antibiotics, topical creams and gels is available to your doctor to aid you in your battle with acne. The goal for many people is to get their acne under control by using an antibiotic treatment for a few weeks or so and then reverting back to using one of the available, over the counter remedies.

There’s no substitute for time

The most important thing to remember about acne remedies is that they do take some time to work.Don’t expect too much too soon. The improvement should be gradual but sustainable. There is always the option of moving up to a more powerful remedy if you are not seeing the level of improvement you want.

Always keep in mind that you may need to consult your doctor if you suffer a negative reaction to any of the acne remedies you try.Keep in mind that many different acne remedies exist and they work in many different ways. You could soon be enjoying clean, acne-free skin if you follow this simple recipe. Take some professional guidance from your doctor or dermatologist, mix in a little bit of time, add in the little effort required and reap the benefits your patience deserves.
