Dental Veneers
Dental veneers were originally invented by a dentist in California, USA. However, at the time the glue used was no good and the veneers came off after a short period. Now, veneers have been highly modernized. Using modern bonding adhesives, they can bond to the teeth for up to 30 years. In times past, the only way to correct dental imperfections was to cover the tooth with a crown. Nowadays, veneers as such are utilized to greatly enhance the look of the teeth and/or for the reparation or protection of damaged tooth surfaces.
How is veneer defined? The dictionary states, “a thin layer of a material bonded to the surface of a less attractive or inferior material.” Veneers in dentistry are very thin layers of artificial tooth (made either of porcelain or a resin composite) that are the natural color of your tooth and are placed on your tooth.
What makes you a candidate for veneers? Broken or chipped teeth; worn down, misaligned or uneven teeth; crooked or badly-shaped teeth or teeth with large unsightly gaps between them.
As mentioned; veneers come in the form of porcelain or composite resin (hard plastic). Your local dental expert can advise which option is best suited for you.
The resistance of veneers to the staining of coffee, tea, tobacco, etc. is very high. Your teeth will again look great and feel healthy, giving you a refreshed new and enhanced look.
Veneers have had rave reviews from dentists and patients alike. Stories are abundant about how they have literally changed people’s lives by giving them new confidence, so they are no longer shying away from others due to the state of their teeth.
While veneers are in the area of cosmetic dentistry, the procedure is relatively simple and straightforward. It greatly improves one’s looks, strengthens one’s teeth, and might be just what you need to better your appearance.
Veneers are prepared at the lab, subsequent to your initial visit with your local dentist. Your dentist, during your initial visit, will talk to you about the procedure and will take a mold of the tooth/teeth that need to be veneered. After your veneer(s) have been produced in the laboratory, your local dental expert will place them on the respective tooth/teeth. He will then give you a consultation about how to take care of your veneers so that they last a long time and remain in good condition.
