Does the new Appesat pill help?

This new so called expanding capsule that tricks the brain into thinking the stomach is full could help in the battle against obesity as they claim. The pill is taken at least half an hour before meals and works by reducing appetite so that smaller portions are eaten.

As it swells, Appesat stretches the stomach wall, stimulating receptors that send a signal to the brain to say that the stomach is full.

The effects are similar to those of a gastric balloon, an inflatable implant surgically inserted into the stomach and then filled with saline solution. The new capsule simply needs to be swallowed with water.

After a few hours, it gets broken down by acid in the stomach and is flushed out of the body as waste.

It has been approved as a medical device by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority, the government body that vets new treatments.

Recent research predicted one in three adults in the UK will be obese by the time London stages the Olympic Games in 2012.

A range of anti-obesity pharmaceutical drugs have been licensed in recent years. These include Xenical, which works by reducing the amount of fat absorbed by the gut, and Rimonabant, which acts on the brain to suppress appetite.

Effectiveness of Fibre From Seaweed Verses Hoodia Gordonii:-

However, one last thing to consider before we make our final decision is which active ingredient is best for you? Fibre or Hoodia? Lets look at the facts:

Fibre:

Fibre is well known for helping you to feel full and eat less. No doubt you will have seen one of the many adverts for cereal that claim because of a high fibre content your hunger will be satisfied right through from breakfast to lunch. Appesat extracts the fibre (Bioginate Complex) from a seaweed specially grown on the French Atlantic coast. Although it does work it does not do anything that a slight change in your diet won’t do.

For example if you eat a high-fibre cereal for breakfast and then ensure you eat some other high-fibre foods throughout the day (nuts, whole-meal bread, potato skins, brown rice, beans, fruit, vegetables, and whole-meal pasta are all examples of high-fibre foods) then you will naturally achieve the same results for a much cheaper price!

For this reason, unless you really cannot stand to eat these kind of foods then Appesat is not really worth your hard earned cash.

Hoodia Gordonii:

Hoodia Gordonii is a cactus plant that is native to the Kalahari region of South Africa. It is not an ingredient that is commonly found in foods that you and me purchase. Therefore unlike Appesat, Hoodia offers you something that a change in diet cannot achieve. Having been used by the Kalahari bushmen (San Tribe) to suppress their appetite during long hunting expeditions, it has been introduced to the rest of the world as a safe an effective way for you to reduce your calorie intake and lose weight.
Clinical trials have proven it’s effectiveness and many success stories are now available to further prove it’s power as an appetite suppressant.
