Stocking your fridge and cupboard with a selection of nutritious foods makes it easier to plan daily and weekly anything that is available; no matter how unhealthy it may be. Fat-laden snacks] are the first thing one [spin]reaches out for to appease the growing hunger pangs; keeping them out of sight, out of reach and mostly out of the house is the best way to avoid eating them.

Here are a couple suggestions that will help youinculcate good eating habits in the family.

Create a list
Before you go out food shopping, take a good look at your fridge and cupboard. If you don’t see these foods around, make sure they are on your shopping list- milk, eggs, cereals, vegetables, fruits and bread foods down on your list first and right at the bottom of the list, you can include the crisps and sodas, if you really must.

Make good food accessible and convenient to younger kids
If you have younger kids, take advantage of the huge variety of convenient yet healthy foods that are easily available flavored yoghurts in small tubs and small bottles of milk in a variety of flavors. Show your [spin]kids|children|little ones[spin] where they are and encourage them to help themselves whenever they do need a quick snack.

Use fruits as an edible decoration dinner with fruit.[/spin]
Buy a variety of fruits and keep them in a highly visible place; a big bowl of fruits in the center of the kitchen table will catch everyone’s attention. This is sure to stimulate the senses and whet the appetite. Anyone coming into the kitchen is guaranteed to forget about those crisps they came in for and help themselves to some fruit instead. Keep your fruit bowl in a far spot of the kitchen and nobody will so much as give it another[spin] [spin]glance.

Variety is the spice of life
Plan the family menu for the week before you set out food shopping, making sure you have something different for dinner every day. It does not have to be anything complex or tedious to prepare and cook. As long as you have a variety, just include any foods that can be easily prepared in the time available. Pasta salads, spaghetti in meat sauce, rice and beans and a variety of salads and soups are some of the easy options. Make sure you buy the ingredients necessary for all the dishes on your weekly menu.

Involve the children
Take the children shopping and let them pick any one fruit or salad vegetable of their choice. Let them weigh it and pay for it themselves. This is sure to pique their interest enough for them to want to eat it. Going shopping with you will soon become something to look forward to.

Save Time
You may not have thought about it but there are ways to avoid the need for being in the kitchen for an hour every night. One idea is to spend one weekend a month and cook all the meals you need and then freeze them. Another idea is to use the crock pot. This is what I do, you can find a huge array of crockpot recipes including chicken crockpot recipes and chicken beef recipes.

Breakfast is [spin]important|imperative[spin]
A common complaint among most families is that there is never enough time to sit and have breakfast. However, there is an easy solution to this perennial dilemma- wake up 15 minutes earlier. [spin]It’s worth it.|[spin] Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you do not have time to cook up an elaborate breakfast, make sure you have some of the basics like cereal and milk that the children can easily help themselves to.
