Poison Food
I have heard that if you eat something that will give you food poisoning, you won’t know it for twenty-four hours. I don’t know how accurate that is, as it seems if something is bad your body would start rejecting it right away. On the other hand, alcohol is actually a poison, and you don’t reject it unless you body is overwhelmed with it, then out it comes. Whatever the case may be, there seems to be more and more reports of food poisoning in the news lately, and it’s not coming from under cooked meat.
I don’t know if I have ever had food poisoning in my life, but there was one night when my dinner came back up rather rapidly, and I was fine after that. Perhaps that was a strange virus with a very short life span rather than food poisoning, though I may never know. I do know that on my local news it seems that more and more bacterium that are known to cause food poisoning are showing up on store shelves. It makes easy veggies a little trickier than it used to be.
The first case of recent nationwide food poisoning that I knew of was bagged lettuce. There were special reports and one reporter even went to the fields to see how bagged lettuce was processed. Some say workers use the field for a restroom, and this might be part of the problem. I don’t even want to know. I just hope that if that is the case, someone takes care of that problem rather quickly.
The next report I heard about food poisoning was leafy, bagged spinach. That was not a worry in my house, as we don’t eat it, but there were many in my own community that got sick. The problem might the same that caused the lettuce to pick up the harmful bacterium. There was yet another case a few weeks ago of food poisoning across the nation, but I can’t remember what that item was. I do remember it was not something I personally had to worry about, but it was something almost everyone uses. This just goes to show you that you should always wash any vegetable or fruit you bring into your home no matter how it is or is not packaged. It’s always a good idea to be safe and take the few extra minutes to do so.
