The Dangers Of Inexperienced Dentists
We were taught when we were young, to take care of our teeth and have it checked at least twice a year or every six months. Now, sometimes even if we are diligent with our dental health by brushing and flossing everyday and visiting our dentist regularly, we need to have emergency dental help. With our regular dentists, we’d have no problem, but what if the emergency forced you to visit another dentists other than your regular one?
Here’s situation that’s worth thinking about. Let’s say that you are on a vacation or business trip, thousand of miles from home, when suddenly a pain shoots from the back of your mouth. A pain so excruciating and unbearable that you cannot chew your food. Your friend and colleagues take a look and all say one thing, wisdom tooth. You can wait to see your regular dentist, but being a thousand miles away and the pain being so unbearable, you need to have some wisdom teeth removal done right away.
So the answer is simple, go seek out a dentist. But remember, you are in a part of the world where you know nothing about the local dental hygienists. Would you choose the first dentist you find or would you at least try to find the best one available. One that is experienced and has a trustworthy and solid reputation? Of course you would go for the latter, that’s no contest. But if you choose to go to the first one, say an inexperienced dentist fresh out of college? Even if the inexperienced dentist is the class valedictorian of his or her school, the lack of experience is one you should be wary of.
So for the sake of argument, let’s say you chose to go to an inexperienced dentist. What are the possible repercussions of this hasty decision? For starters, that dentist may not have all the proper tools they would need. The problems this would cause is obvious. Then, let’s say he or she has never performed a wisdom teeth removal procedure their whole lives. Another accident waiting to happen there. Then, when it comes to anesthesia, what if they put in too little, or worst case, too much? I shudder to think of the consequences of that. See where this is going? By choosing to go to an inexperienced dentist, say due to the direness for your situation or even cause they are significantly cheaper, you can see the train wreck that’s going to happen in your mouth. Worse comes to worst, the pain you feel before you went to the dentist? Will be worse once you finish with the dentist.
Of course, good common sense dictates that it is always recommended to go to the more experienced dentist. Even if you are in a dire state of pain, like needing gum disease treatment, or in dire straits financially, those are not reasons to choose an inexperienced dental hygienist. The way you take care of your teeth, and the way you opt to visit your regular dentist shows that you care for your teeth. In an emergency, shouldn’t you care for it even more lest you suffer more unbearable pain? So be good to yourself, and your teeth. Whenever possible, choose the experienced dentist over the one fresh out of dental school. Your maw would be eternally grateful you did.
