Since there is little else that you can do to take care of a cold, why not try the traditional remedy of chicken soup? Scientists have shown that there are several qualities of the soup that can at least make you to feel better so why not cook up some soup and feel better?

One of the best recipes for chicken soup uses roasted chicken. You can use leftover chicken from the bird you roasted last night in your trusty kitchenaid oven or pick up a chicken that has been cooked in a rotisserie oven at the local grocery store. You will need about three cups of cubed chicken.

For the soup base, you can buy commercially prepared soup base or you can use the carcass of the roasted chicken to make your own. Just throw the skeletal remains of the chicken into the pot with a few chopped carrots, celery and onion. Allow to boil a couple of hours and strain. Throw the veggies and bones away and keep the broth. You will have a great chicken soup base.

Once you have collected the broth add the chicken and some vegetables you have prepared using your black decker food processor. The food processor makes the task of chopping vegetables a much easier process.

If you want pasta in your chicken soup but want the pasta to keep a good texture, then you will want to prepare the pasta on the side. Add pasta to each serving of soup just before serving. This allows you to store any leftover soup without pasta losing its shape and texture.. Leftover soup without the pasta freezes well.

By preparing your own soup, you are able to control the amount of salt that is added to your food. Canned soups are often very high in sodium, which may present problems to persons with certain health conditions. The method of preparing your own stock from the roasted bird gives you even more control over the amount of sodium in your food.

An additional benefit is that you can load a home made soup up with fresh vegetables. This can add many needed nutrients to your diet.

If you feel a sniffle coming on, then stop by the store today to pick up a rotisserie chicken and some vegetables. Head home and create a large pot of your favorite chicken soup. Cuddle up on the sofa with a blanket and a large cup of the soup and nurse yourself back to health with your own chicken soup.
