Why Is Soup Made From Black Beans Such A Great Food

Guess what…easy black bean soup recipe has been a popular dish all across Latin America for centuries and for good reason. The main reason for this are the many health benefits the little dark bean that the soup is made of has. Time to pay some closer attention tot this “Super Food”.

Black beans are an excellent amino acid source, which of course helps our bodies (our muscular structure to be exact) stay healthy. While meat is often our main source for protein, beans also contain quite a bit of this important building block. Beans are also much cheaper than other protein sources and have some additional health benefits.

The second reason beans are such healthy foods is the fact that they are full of fiber. Our bodies need fiber to aid in digestion. It even helps remove bad cholesterol from our systems, thus improving heart health. These beans also contain folate and magnesium both of which help keep your heart healthy as well.

Since beans contain both lean protein and a lot of fiber, they make an excellent food choice for people with diabetes. They provide the body with plenty of nutrients while both the fiber and the protein avoid the dreaded insulin spike.

There’s been a lot of talk about antioxidants lately and the role they play in slowing down the aging process and preventing cancer. You’ll be glad to know that black beans are full of these anti-oxidents and are right up there with grapes and cranberries when it comes to these power substances. The darker the bean, the higher the amount of antioxidants by the way.

Now that we’ve established that beans are a super food, it’s time to get cooking. Make a pot of homemade black bean soup or try some other bean recipes this week. If you can, I encourage you to substitute several meat dishes a week with beans. There are plenty of yummy bean and lentil varieties out there that can be turned into delicious and healthy meals. You’ll be improving your health while saving money.
